Coconut palms and frangipani trees….
The 3-bedroom Villa offers peace and tranquility in the heart of Seminyak, just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. Boasting contemporary minimalist architecture and décor. The Villa has a wonderful coconut tree lined garden, which is ideal for music and dance performances, parties and small events. The L-shaped, single-storey Villa is positioned around two sides of a square flat lawn, complete with 12 x 2-metre lap pool and romantic relaxation pavilion. The tropical open-concept living and dining area literally spills onto a wooden deck bordering the garden, and incorporates an innovative sunken lounge. The bedrooms feature chic garden bathrooms, and there is also an air-conditioned study room with TV and DVD player, and a stylish concept kitchen.
Resting beneath the dancing coconut palms is a stone carved ensemble of five Balinese gamelan musicians, complete with drum, flute, cymbals and gong and privacy is maintained by an encompassing garden wall. A fishpond runs the length of one side of the villa, lined with frangipani trees and shaded by a pergola dripping with the cascading white thunbergia flowers.
Living and dining area
The open living and dining area literally spills onto a wooden deck within the beautiful garden, and is sheltered from the elements by a flat roof with a rustic woven rattan ceiling. The flat roof supports a natural cooling system, which recycles and circulates water that has been drawn up from the pond, while also enabling guests to enjoy the relaxing sound of running water. Two lazy chairs and a coffee table face the garden; rolling bamboo blinds can be pulled across – if required – to create a private cozy ambience, and the polished concrete floor feels cool underfoot. The focal point of the living and dining area is the innovative sunken lounge; square in shape, it is accessed by four steps and fitted with built-in cushioned seating that can comfortably accommodate a group of eight people. An antique Javanese rice chest, known as a ‘gerobok’ rests upon its wooden wheels in the centre of the lounge. The dining area is furnished with a circular dining table and six chairs, and is located next to the stylish open-plan kitchen. The appeal is further highlighted by teak paneled cabinetry, integrated down lighting and cylindrical columns. One of the fitted cabinets houses a Bose sound system and a good selection of CDs. A black terrazzo bar links the kitchen and the dining space; and can be utilised as a breakfast, coffee, or cocktail bar due to the provision of four chrome and white ‘satellite dish’ stools. Once again, for privacy, the kitchen can be closed off on two sides by discrete, cleverly designed, teak doors, which slide across to create a seamless teak wall.
The TV/study room is a self-contained, air-conditioned snug, nestled between the living area and the master bedroom. Offering a TV and DVD player, this room is private cosy space where guests can relax and get comfortable while watching satellite channels on the TV, or movies from a good selection of DVDs.
The air-conditioned master bedroom, with its pitched roof, is located next to the TV room, and accessed through glass doors from the wooden deck at one end of the swimming pool. Dominated by an ornately carved, black, red and gold, Chinese marriage bed, complemented by Oriental, an antique Chinese cabinet, a lazy chair and a library of books, this room reflects the travels and the predilections of the owner, introducing a personal ambience. Windows overlook the lily pond on one side and the swimming pool on the other. An en-suite dressing area is fitted with ample storage space and a safe deposit box; the cupboards and wardrobes showcasing attractive woven bamboo doors. The adjoining bathroom is characterized by pebbled walls, terrazzo flooring, and a stainless steel vanity unit with a ceramic washbasin next to the toilet. Glass doors lead into an enchanting open-air area beside the lily pond, housing a sunken oversize bathtub with timber surround, together with a shower.
The two guest bedrooms are hidden behind sliding teak doors in a separate thatched-roof wing of the property, which runs parallel to the garden and at right angles to the living and dining area. The air-conditioned first bedroom has giant umbrella tree ferns that grace the en-suite garden bathroom. This spacious bedroom is furnished with a king size bed, an antique daybed, trunk, stools and comfy chairs, resting on a terrazzo floor under a pitch roof. The neutral décor is enhanced by local artifacts and primitive artwork, and there is also a safe deposit box for the storage of valuables. Sliding glass doors open into a pretty private walled garden at the back, lushly stocked with green plants and featuring a natural pebbled floor. This garden is actually an extension of the bathroom and can also be accessed via another door, which leads into the bathroom through an adjoining dressing area. The bathroom is characterized by a generous terrazzo tub and a chic stainless steel vanity unit decorated with sea shells. It also features pebbled walls, mirrors, wooden panelling, a timber deck, a shower, toilet, and a frosted glass door that opens into the garden area.
The neighboring bedroom, complete with adjoining dressing room and bathroom is a mirror version of the first guest bedroom, and features big banana plants in the private en-suite garden. This room is also equipped with a safe deposit box.
The custom kitchen features white cabinetry, black terrazzo worktops, stainless steel oven and hob, and all of the appliances and facilities that the staff need in order to prepare delicious meals.
Garden, pool and relaxation pavilion
The 12 x 2-metre lap pool is tiled with green Java stone. Behind the pool and overlooking the entire property is a raised relaxation pavilion, known as a ‘bale bengong’. Flanked by an abundance of flowering plants, it is furnished with cushions and diaphanous drapes and perfect for chilling out with a book or taking an afternoon nap. Staff quarters are located at the back of the property, and there is also a secure car parking area.
