Dramatic Interiors with a grand sense of space…
Privately enclosed within a spacious walled garden abundant with palm trees and tropical plants, the bedrooms and living areas are conveniently arranged around a sparkling 18-metre river-stone swimming pool, which forms the centerpiece to this luxurious villa. Super sleek and sexy, but fabulously comfortable, this home would not be out of place in one of the world’s fashion capitals yet it is located in the traditional Village of SehSeh, which although sleepy and authentic is home to many of Bali’s most impressive private estates. The surf beach is rugged with black volcanic sands, and lends itself to the most brilliant Bali sunsets. Watch the local fisherman haul in their daily catch, and the village children play football at dusk. Or wander to the local temple where enchanting ceremonies are performed daily against the ocean backdrop. For adventure further afield, hire Mahatma’s car and driver; within twenty minutes you could be dining at one of Seminyak’s world class restaurants, shopping at a très chic boutique, or teeing off on the world renowned Nirwana Bali Golf course.
Mahatma House is a great villa for families and kids will love the wide open garden space – perfect for a game of tag or football, and having Seseh beach on the doorstep, where, even if the water isn’t great for swimming, there’s always something exciting going on. Do keep an eye on toddlers around the fish ponds and water features at the villa though.
With its enormous kitchen and dining space and its open-sided living areas looking out across the magnificent tropical gardens and swimming pool, this is an ideal venue for social events, whether it be a wedding, milestone celebration or informal and relaxed get-together with friends or family. And the professionally trained staff, including an experienced villa manager and restaurant-trained private chef, will ensure that every moment of your stay is absolutely faultless.
Surrounded by a lush tropical garden bordering an expanse of manicured lawn, the Villa boasts three pavilions symmetrically arranged around an emerald green swimming pool that forms the centerpiece of this villa. At the heart of the main pavilion is an enormous light-filled, open-plan living room furnished with an oversized daybed strewn with Chinese style silk cushions, and comfortable rattan chairs upon which to recline with a book or take an afternoon nap. This magnificent space overlooks the garden and pool and is connected to the kitchen by a rustic wooden bridge over a fishpond.
The kitchen, finished in super-stylish black terrazzo and equipped with fabulous matt black crockery, features Chinese cabinets and a wall display of traditional Javanese metal cracker jars. Adjacent to the kitchen, the open-sided dining room seats ten and overlooks the garden, pool and balé.
The entertainment area is located to the other side of the living pavilion and is furnished with comfortable sofas on which to lay back and watch the 42-inch flat-screen television, discreetly housed within a chic black oriental-style cabinet. Behind the entertainment area, and looking out towards the garden, pool and pavilions, is a low Japanese-style table with seating for six.
The two master bedrooms boast spectacular views over the ocean as it stretches endlessly towards the horizon, whilst the suites and corner room are surrounded by the verdant garden, fragrant with frangipani.
Upstairs in the main pavilion are two identical master bedrooms – one facing east and the other west – appropriately named the Sunrise and Sunset suites. Sunrise looks out over a Hindu temple on the seafront whilst Sunset has wonderfully expansive views over the ocean. The rooms feature iPod docking stations, televisions, DVD players and lounge areas with enormous windows that can open to let in the balmy sea breezes. Daybeds on each of the rooms’ private balconies beckon for moments of pure relaxation.
The corner room, below the Sunset suite has an ensuite with shower and access to its own private garden. Located at the far side of the garden, and separated by a decadent alfresco lounge area, are the mirror-image Sunrise and Sunset pavilions. Romanesque sunken baths luxuriate within the bedrooms while the ensuite bathrooms are fitted with a shower. Covered terraces embellished with artefacts and statues from around Indonesia offer views over the pool and garden and feature sofas built into the stonework. Four of the five bedrooms have their own attached sitting rooms, so young children can also sleep close by to their parents.
Guests can relax on the couches in the entertainment area and watch TV or curl up with a book. If culinary delights are for you then take a seat at the dining table, with magnificent views over the pool and garden, and observe the master chef in action. There is also a wonderful selection of private outdoor living areas as well. Laze under a parasol on one of the four oversized daybeds surrounding the pool; escape from the midday heat in the comfortable balé, wrapped in the garden’s lush greenery and shaded by trees; enjoy a cocktail or two at the villa’s piece de resistance, the poolside lounge. This fabulous area, which comfortably seats 12, has a unique circular fire bowl lantern that illuminates the garden spectacularly at night.
Families love the sense of space and privacy at this Villa. It is removed from the touristy centres giving a genuine Villa experience, yet within easy enough reach for outings.
