AN AMAZING CULTURAL RETREAT…
Surrounded by tranquil rice fields, is this lush garden property hosting two elegantly converted hundred-year-old Javanese teak wooden homes. The estate consists of two bedroom ‘Villa Wates’ and one bedroom ‘Villa Bugoharjo’. The Villas provide 21st century living in 19th century houses. Each has a kitchen and several private garden spaces around a shared swimming pool. The retreat grounds are expansive and the two Villas each enjoy a lot of privacy. It is possible to rent both joglo houses and enjoy three bedrooms for your group.
Your experience is hosted by Balinese house-keepers and cooks who specialize in healthy food. Just ten minutes north of central Ubud, in the cultural heart of Bali, the location grants easy access to the village’s many restaurants, spas, and cultural opportunities.
Villa Wates is surrounded on two sides by rice fields, has two air conditioned bedrooms and can accommodate up to 5 people. The master bedroom has a king-size bed that can also be arranged as twin beds. Its en suite bathroom has a roomy shower. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed and an en suite bathroom with a shower and hot tub. In the main living room, a large day bed can accommodate one more guest, and there is access to the master bathroom directly from the living room. All beds are romantically draped in mosquito netting and ceiling fans cool each room.
Each bedroom has a private garden with patio and seating, and a beautiful view into the rice fields. The spacious living room offers plentiful seating and lounging with its couches and chairs and a large dining table. At one end of the room wall-to-wall folding glass doors open onto the garden and a wide wrap-around porch that leads to a separate fully equipped kitchen. In the house’s main garden a lotus pond separates an elegant resting pavilion from the main house, offering a tranquil space to read a book, or enjoy your breakfast surrounded by the garden.
Breakfast is included daily and there is an excellent lunch and dinner menu. There is always the option of self-catering and the housekeeper can shop for you or take you shopping with them, so you can get the freshest and even organic produce, find the best bread, and visit the choicest deli, all at relatively inexpensive prices. An organic garden on the property supplies fresh vegetables in season.
Guests can enjoy a natural dye Batik class, a cooking class or a Balinese temple offering class during their stay. These opportunities are very reasonably priced and will be a highlight of your stay. There are bicycles for hire, wonderful rice paddy walks and the private shuttle offers drop- offs and pick ups in Ubud between 9am and 10pm.
