Canggu Villas: Family Guide to Bali’s Best Villa Rentals

If you’ve started searching for Canggu villas, you’ve probably noticed there’s a lot to sift through. Canggu is Bali’s most popular villa destination for families and groups — but it’s also three very different neighbourhoods wearing one name, and choosing the pocket that suits you is key to loving your time here.
We’ve been matching Australian and international families with private villas in Bali since 2012, and Canggu is where we send more families than anywhere else on the island.

Here’s everything you need to know before you book.

Canggu Villas at a Glance

Canggu sits on Bali’s south-west coast, about 45–60 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport, and is made up of three distinct areas: Berawa, Batubolong & Echo Beach, and Pererenan. Most Canggu villa rentals come with a private pool, multiple bedrooms, and in-villa staff such as a housekeeper, pool cleaner and sometimes a private chef — making them a genuinely comfortable, home-like base for a family or large group holiday.

Why Families Choose Canggu Over Other Parts of Bali

Canggu has earned its reputation as Bali’s most-loved villa hub for a reason. The villas here are purpose-built for holidays — designed with the space, pools and living areas that make a group stay genuinely comfortable — and many families also live in this part of the island permanently.

That resident community brings with it facilities and activities suited to all ages, from kids’ playgrounds and cafés with dedicated play spaces to art workshops, yoga studios, surf schools and weekly markets — not to mention Bali’s famous sunset vibes, which Canggu delivers in full along its beach stretch every evening. Compared to the maturity of Seminyak villas or the clifftop area of Uluwatu villas, Canggu offers something in between — a surf culture at its core, with fashionable shops, trendy restaurants, beach clubs and world class day spas, all within a short golf- cart ride of your villa gate.

It also happens to be brilliant for kids. Shallow beach breaks for learner surfers, playgrounds tucked into cafés, and a huge range of Canggu villas with private pools built around bunk rooms and pool fencing make it an easy sell for parents travelling with little ones — or teens who’d rather be at a skate park than a spa. Canggu is also home to some of Bali’s most impressive swimming pools, and bunk rooms are a genuine feature across many of the villas in our collection here — a combination that tends to make the kids very happy indeed.

Berawa vs Batubolong & Echo Beach vs Pererenan

This is the part most guests get wrong before they talk to us — and it makes a real
difference to how your holiday feels.
Berawa is the pick for families wanting to be close to the beach and a genuinely great café scene. It’s home to Finns Beach Club, Milk & Madu, and some of Canggu’s best- rated villa rentals for groups, including family favourites like Villa Myki Canggu and Villa Mizi. Berawa also has the free Finns shuttle circuit — a hop-on hop-off community jeep that makes getting around the area easy without needing your own transport.

Batubolong and Echo Beach sit together as a lively hub — restaurants, surf breaks and beach bars are all on your doorstep, and it’s a short stroll to sunset drinks at La Brisa.
The beach here is well known for its longboarders wave, making it particularly popular with families who want beginner-friendly surf in a sociable atmosphere. This is a strong option if you want everything within walking distance and don’t mind a bit more energy, and it’s home to villas like Villa Marang, a six-bedroom favourite with a dedicated bunk room.

Pererenan is the quieter, more spread-out choice, maintaining a genuine local village atmosphere with quaint cafés and a slower pace that suits families who want the Canggu lifestyle without the crowds. Groups after a bit more space and privacy tend to love it here. If Pererenan doesn’t quite fit the brief, our Outer Canggu villas collection
covers nearby areas like Tumbak Bayuh and Cemagi for even more room to spread out.

Traffic in Canggu is real, especially with a big group in tow — so walkability within your chosen pocket matters more than which suburb sounds trendiest. Our team talks through this with every family before booking, because the right location makes the whole trip easier.

What to Look for in a Family-Friendly Canggu Villa

Not every Canggu villa rental is built with kids or big groups in mind. When comparing options, it’s worth looking for pool fencing or the option to arrange it for families with toddlers, bunk rooms or family suites that keep siblings and cousins happy, enclosed living areas that give parents peace of mind and little ones room to play safely, full villa staff including a housekeeper and ideally a private chef, and bedroom flexibility — many Canggu villas can be booked with fewer bedrooms outside peak season.

We personally inspect every villa in our collection with exactly this checklist in mind, and we provide complimentary extras — baby cots with fitted mattress and linen, high chairs, car seats for airport transfers, pool floats, toy baskets, stair gates, monitors and baby bouncers — as standard.
