Bali has thousands of villas listed online, and after a while they all start to blur into the same infinity pool photo. But not every villa works for a family holiday. Some are designed for couples on a romantic escape. Others are stunning to look at but sit right on the edge of a cliff with no pool fence in sight, or an hour from anywhere useful with kids in the car.
At Bali Family Villas, we’ve been matching Australian and international families with the right Bali villas since 2012, so we’ve seen what actually makes a stay work, and what looks great in a listing but falls apart on day two. Here’s what to think about before you book.

What makes a villa a "family" villa
A private pool and a nice kitchen are a good start, but a genuinely family-friendly villa usually has:
- Pool fencing or a shallow end, so parents can relax instead of hovering
- Bunk rooms or connecting bedrooms, so kids can sleep soundly near parents room
- Open-plan living, so you can keep an eye on everyone while relaxing or having a coffee
- Extras like cots, high chairs and car seats, so you’re not packing half a nursery in your luggage. We provide all the gear free of charge too!
- A location that isn’t a 45-minute drive from food, beach and activities
None of this shows up clearly in a scroll through generic listing sites, which is why our portfolio is hand picked for the right mix of style, service and family friendly bali villa features. This is the exact gap we built Bali Family Villas to close, every villa in our collection is personally inspected with families and groups in mind.
Choosing the right area
Bali is bigger and more varied than most first-time visitors expect, and where you stay shapes the whole trip.
Canggu suits families who want beach clubs, good coffee and a buzzy, walkable feel close by. If you’d rather have the same vibe with a bit more space and quiet, the Outer Canggu villas are worth a look.
Seminyak is central and convenient, with restaurants, shopping and the airport all close by — a solid pick for a first Bali trip with kids. For more privacy at a similar location, check the Outer Seminyak villas.
Uluwatu and the Bukit are the pick for dramatic clifftop views and a slower pace, best suited to families with older kids or groups who don’t mind driving a bit further for dinner. Looking for a villa for near surf breaks? Ask our team.
Jimbaran Bay and Sanur both offer calmer waters, which matters a lot if you’re travelling with younger children who want to paddle at the beach rather than surf it. Village feel and beach vibes.
Ubud is a green, inland change of pace, with rice terraces and cultural experiences that are great for older kids and multi-generational trips.
Nusa Lembongan and the Gili Islands are worth the boat trip if your family wants a quieter, island-hop chapter of the holiday. A beachfront villa is achievable here.
If you’re not sure which fits, our team knows these neighbourhoods on the ground and can talk you through the trade-offs before you commit.

Villas for large groups and multi-family trips
Travelling with grandparents, cousins or two or three families together? Bali is genuinely good at this, you’ll find villas with 6, 8, even 12+ bedrooms across multiple pavilions, built for exactly this kind of trip. Our large group villas page covers everything from reunion-sized estates to villas that split into separate bookable wings, so everyone gets their own space without losing the shared living areas that make group trips fun.
Travelling with babies and toddlers
If you’re planning your first overseas trip with a baby or toddler, the villa itself does a lot of the heavy lifting. A pool fence, a cot that’s already set up, a high chair waiting in the kitchen and a car seat booked for the airport transfer can be the difference between a relaxing holiday and a stressful one. Our concierge service for families arranges all of this before you land, along with toy baskets, pool floats, strollers and baby monitors, so you’re not trying to source equipment in an unfamiliar city with a jet-lagged toddler.

Questions families ask us most
How far in advance should I book a Bali villa?
For school holidays, Christmas or larger group villas, 6–9 months ahead is a good idea, since the best family-sized properties book out early. Smaller villas outside peak season can often be secured a few months out.
Is Bali safe for young children?
Yes, with the right precautions. The main thing to check is pool safety, we arrange temporary pool fence hire in Bali and Lembongan, so let us arrange it for you with our trusted supplier.
Do I need a car and driver?
Most families do hire a driver for at least part of their stay. It makes moving between the villa, beaches and activities far easier with kids in tow, and most of our villas can help arrange this. We arrange airport arrival transfers as an inclusion with car seats.
What's included in a typical villa booking?
This varies by property, but generally includes daily housekeeping, a villa team, and often breakfast. We list exactly what’s included on each individual villa page, so there are no surprises.
For more planning tips, our Bali Family Guide covers everything from best times to visit to getting around with kids, and our FAQs page answers the practical questions about bookings, deposits and payments.
Finding your villa
Bali has no shortage of villas, the harder part is finding one that actually suits your family, in the right area, with the right number of bedrooms and the right extras already sorted. That’s the part we handle.
Browse our hand-picked Bali villas by location, or get in touch and tell our team your dates, group size and what matters most to you. As an Australian-owned business with a team on the ground in Bali, we’ll shortlist villas that genuinely fit, not just the ones with the best photos.
